What started as a small group of guys crafting beer in the garage, has since transformed into Illinois based brewing company Radium City Brewing. Approached with the proposition of creating a brand with historical significance to their home town Ottawa, Radium City coins its name from the historical watch factories owned by the corporation Radium in the 1920’s. The story, although rather bleak, involves employees of the Radium Corporation painting numbers on the faces of wristwatches using dangerous radioactive paint (unbeknownst at the time). Dozens of women, known as Radium Girls, later died of radium poisoning. The story as noted by the brewmasters, has transformed into a local legend.
