Growing up as a guitar player, Eddie Van Halen was one of my idols (but which guitar played didn’t idiolize the man?). Saying Van Halen’s playing was influential is an understatement. He changed the mindset of an entire generation of guitarists and his guitar was an embodiment of that influence. I’d like to think, that if I had the chance to go back and talk to 13 year old me, he wouldn’t believe me when I told him I got to work with one of the idols.
With Eddie’s brand we refocused the image on what his instruments had represented for so many years; that spirit, the carelessness, the raw energy which he brought to every stage. Bold, confident typography. Rough and moving photography. The stripes earned on every stage. All backed by the intense and unapologetic red from which he made his canvas. These principles are what guided us in ultimately representing his personally perfected instruments into the EVH brand, and I am humbled to have been a part of it.
